Local Election News
November 8, 2011

Timing is everything and the next couple of years are be critical for Brisbane’s future. Decisions will be made that will set the tone for years to come. Will those decisions help to change the widespread perception that Brisbane is a no growth, anti-development, anti-business community? I certainly hope so.

Two council chairs are up for re-election.  The City of Brisbane is lucky to have three worthy candidates vying for these seats on the November 8 ballot.

The County Elections Office released the Randomized Alpha Drawing for Local Measures to be Voted On.  This is done to determine the Measure letters that are assigned througout the County, as well as determine the placement of names on the ballot of those running for elected office. In short the candidates for City Council will be listed on the ballot in the following order:

  • Terry O'Connell
  • Cyril G. "Cy" Bologoff (incumbant)
  • Ray Miller

Also on the November 8, 2011 ballot is Measure J the Business License Tax Measure  “an ordinance of the City of Brisbane amending Section 5.20.100 of the Brisbane Municipal Code to increase the business license tax charged to certain recycling establishments.”  This is an important ordinance in that it allows the City increase their income and helps to offset the expected loss of the income formerly attributed to VWR.

Recology and the City of Brisbane have been working diligently.  From my chair this is a win-win proposition.  To read more please click here to visit Shape the Future.
